"So, what's the best approach to find diet pills that actually work? The answer is simple, yet complex: evaluate the ingredients by analyzing the label."
► Overview/Background - The Diet Pill Dilemma: We're constantly receiving questions from customers and visitors to our website asking for guidance about what diet pills they should consider to help reach their weight loss goals. So, we decided to put an article together to help answer those questions.
Alright, let's get right to it - what diet pills actually work? Or are they all just over-hyped products promoted with phony, touched up before and after photos?
The truth is that there are diet products on the market today which don't produce results - there's just no question - despite the millions of dollars the manufacturers of these products put into advertising to convince you otherwise. But, there are also diet products available which can definitely help with fat loss.
So, what's the best approach to find diet pills that actually work? The answer is simple, yet complex: you need to evaluate the ingredients in the product by analyzing the label.
It's really no different than looking at the label on the back of a microwave dinner or any other food product for that matter. It's what is actually inside the bottle - inside the pills - that you're buying that matters because that's where the results (or lack thereof in some cases) originate.

The good news is that there are certain compounds / ingredients that have been studied and proven to help with fat loss, through different mechanisms or pathways. In general, these fat loss promoting ingredients can help to:
- Increase your metabolic rate - increasing the rate at which your body burns calories, which in turn increases fat loss as fat is simply a way the body stores excess calories (one example of an effective ingredient is Yohimbine);
- Provide you with more energy - allowing you to have more energy to exercise and also burn more calories during exercise (one example of an effective ingredient is Caffeine);
- Control your appetite - reducing food cravings and overall appetite levels - note: appetite control is a factor 70% of dieters cite as the #1 reason they failed in their dieting efforts (one example of an effective ingredient is certain preparations of Hoodia);
- Stabilize or control blood sugar levels - it's a well known fact that your body will not metabolize stored body fat for energy in the presence of insulin - when your blood sugar levels are high, your pancreas secretes insulin and fat loss comes to a halt. Note: while some ingredients definitely help control blood sugar levels (one example is Chromium Picolinate), your diet is absolutely the most significant factor here...so, we don't suggest focusing on this attribute too much, unless you're one of the few people out there doing a ketogenic diet and want to reach ketosis more quickly.
After identifying the presence of effective ingredients, the next step is to consider the amount of each fat loss promoting ingredient. This is just as important as considering the ingredients themselves as some diet products may contain effective ingredients, BUT, at ineffective dosages. This second step can be a bit difficult because many diet product manufacturers will (some for good reasons and others for bad reasons, as discussed below) simply use the term "proprietary formulation" and provide an aggregate or cumulative quantity - with a list of what ingredients comprise that quantity. For instance, you might see: proprietary formula: 850mg - yohimbine, caffeine, hoodia, etc.
In some cases, this "proprietary formulation" approach is taken because the manufacturer is really on to something good and effective, and they want to protect their formulation from being easily copied by the competition. However, in other instances this approach is used to produce an inexpensive and ineffective product, which, on the surface appears viable - the ingredients are proven - but the dosage is too low to be effective. It can be very difficult to tell the difference.
Also, with so many diet products on the market today, and a constant flow of new products, along with new research and the introduction of new ingredients, the process of evaluation becomes even more challenging.
